Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 27, 1791

Log Book &c. of H M Ship Providence from Port Praya in the [Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Tuesday September 27th 1791

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and Squally weather made and shortened Sail occasionally

 3 pm: Cloudy – The Sun set [?] seen in the course of the day

 6 pm: Saw a Man of War bird

 8 pm: Hazy

12 mid: Moderate Breezes and cloudy – Kept a fire in the Galley all night

 2 am: A steady breeze [?] [?] with dark flying clouds – Lightning in the NW Backed and filled the Main Top Sail as required for the Assistant

 6 am: Moderate and cloudy weather

 7 am: Got the Chests up and washed the Gun deck – cleaned the Orlop and kept the Stoves lighted – dried the small sails and peoples cloaths

11 am: Tacked Ship and stood to the WBS

12 noon: Fresh Breezes and cloudy weather a swell from the Southward – The Assistant in Company
    Latitude Observed 4°..20′ North
