Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the [Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope 1791]

Friday September 23d 1791

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy weather

 5 pm: Saw a great number of porpoises

12 mid: Kept a moderate fire at night in the Galley

 3 am: Moderate and pleasant weather

 5 am: Light Breezes and clear pleasant weather – Let the Reefs out of the Topsails set the Royals and Light Sails – Saw several Sea Birds and some Bonettas

 9 am: Got the Chests up and washed the Gun Deck cleaned the Orlop and lighted the Brodie stoves in the Cockpits

10 am: Set up the Fore and Main Rigging

11 am: This Morning a small Bonetta was caught

12 noon: At Noon light Breezes and fine weather – all Sail set – The Assistant in Company – The French Brig in sight
   Latitude Observed 6°..32′ North
