Log Book &c. of H M S. Providence from Spithead towards [the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Remarks Saturday August 27th 1791

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and hazy weather

 3 pm: Saw several grampuses

 5 pm: For the last 8 or 10 nights a heavy dew has fallen

 7 pm: Hazy weather

12 mid: Moderate and hazy

 2 am: Breeze decreasing

 3 am: Light Breezes and hazy

 5 am: Hazy weather

 6 am: Washed the Gun deck and cleaned Ship fore and aft – Got all the Chests and Bags on deck to air – at 9 Saw the Peak of Tenariffe bearing SW

 8 am: more clear

10 am: Assistant in Company

12 noon: At Noon the Peak SW¾W and the East Point of Tenariffe S¼W
   Latitude Observed 28°..53′ North
