Tobin's Providence Logbook Aug 26, 1791

[Log Book &c. of H M Ship Providence from Spithead] towards the Cape of Good Hope –

Friday August 26th

 2 pm: New served the Topsail Tyes

 4 pm: A Sail in sight astern steering the same course as ourselves

 5 pm: Very sultry

 6 pm: Opened the 2d Cask of Beef No 1397 Contents 66 Double Pieces

 9 pm: Spokea Ship called the Redbridge from Southampton bound round Cape Horn on the fishing – she left England the 10th Instant

 2 am: Light Airs inclining to Calm

 5 am: Set all the Studding Sails

 7 am: The Redbridge sent her boat on board of us which returned with the Surgeon, the Captain of his brig being unwell, after visiting him the Surgeon returned on board again

 9 am: Hazy

11 am: The Marines exercised with [?] – Employed fitting the Awnings and making Matts – [indecipherable] Flock of Sheerwaters on the water
   Latitude Observed 30°..15′ North

12 noon: At Noon all Sail set the Assistant in Company
Handed New Main Sail
Thermomter in Shade 82°
