[Log Book &c. of H M Ship Providence from Spithead towards] the Cape of Good Hope – 1791

Remarks Thursday August 18th

 1 pm: moderate PM

 3 pm: Saw Sheerwaters, which birds [indecipherable] two days of having the [indecipherable] [Payed?] down the small Bower cable having finished pointing the Strands

 6 pm: fresh Breezes 5 Sail in sight Standing to the Northward The Crew was put at three watches

12 mid: Light Breezes and cloudy AM

 1 am: rain at times

 3 am: Sheerwaters about the Ship

 5 am: Out 1 Reef Main Top Sail and set the Royals – drizley rain – Washed the [?] deck Brought the Top Gallant Sails below with the yards

 6 am: Moderate Breezes and cloudy 6 Sail in sight

 8 am: The Wind heading [?] took in the [?] Sails – Reefed ye [?] A small Land Bird about the ship

10 am: Swept dry and clean between decks

11 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy – Under single Reefed Top Sails and Top Gallant Sails

12 noon: At Noon the Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 40..41 North Indifferent
