Log Book &c. of H M Ship Providence from Spithead [towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Remarks &c Saturday August 13th 1791

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy weather

 2 pm: This Ships Company employed as the duty required

 5 pm: PM A Heavy swell rising from the SW Hauled down the Jib and handed the Fore Top Gallant Sail

 7 pm: Squally & rain

 9 pm: Sheerwaters about the Ship

12 mid: AM Moderate and cloudy.

 1 am: At Day Light made sail

 2 am: Several Sail in sight

 5 am: The People employed mending their cloaths, and washing themselves

 6 am: Fresh Breezes

 8 am: Loosed the Small Sails to dry

10 am: Fresh Breezes and fair weather

12 noon: At Noon under Single Reefs Main Top Sail double Reefs Fore Top Sail and courses
