Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Spithead towards [the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Remarks &c Wednesday 3d August 1791

 1 pm: Light Breezes and fine Clear Weather

 2 pm: PM At ½ past noon weighed and stood out of Spithead in Company with H M Armed Tender Assistant – at 2 passed Bembridge Ledge Buoy – at 4 St. Catharines Point bore NW 2 Leagues – at 5 Reefed Topsails and got down Top Gallant Yards

 8 pm: At 8 PM Dunnose NE to East – St. Albans Head NWBN – Distant from the Shore about 5 Leagues

 3 am: AM fair and moderate

 4 am: Dunnose ENE and the Needles point NEbN 7 or 8 Leagues

11 am:    Assistant in Company
St. Albans Head bore at Noon NBS¾W 8 or 9 leagues
   Latitude Observed 50°..17′ North
