Remarks ☉ [Sunday] From St Helena to the West Indies

1 pm: Fresh Gales and thick cloudy Weather – a little after one it cleared, set the Topsails, out reefs & set the Lower and Fore Top Mast Studding sails. – A few flying fish seen but no birds of any kind today or sometime past which is rather remarkable. I believe thro' out the Voyage we never had so great an Interval.

6 pm: Fresh Gales, before Dark In Studding sails, Top Gallant sails and 1st reefs.

8 pm: Fresh Gales and cloudy Weather Second reefed the Mizen topsail

11 pm: Squally Weather Second reefed the Fore and Main topsails

12 mid: Fresh Gale & Cloudy Weather

4 am: Ditto Weather The Breeze seems to increase, and Double reefed topsails is as mus as she will bear, the Assistant keeps pretty well up with us – how extremely fortunate we may think ourselves in thus getting out of the SE into the NE Trade without any Intermission of Calms or even light Winds so generally the Case in crossing the Line. at present we have a fair Prospect of carrying a fine Gale to the West Indies

11 am: Ships Company mustered in Divisions, seen clean and Divine Service performed to them by the Captain – Some flying fish seen

12 noon: At Noon a Fresh Gale and thick Hazey Weather the Sun seen but a good deal hazed as was the Horison, so that our Observation is not exact perhaps to half a Mile
Assistant in Company.
