Flinders's Providence Logbook Dec 9, 1792

Remarks ☉ [Sunday] 9th 1792 on board H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes & fair Weather

 2 pm: People washing and mending their Cloaths.

 4 pm: Hazey. The Blowing of a Whale seen.

 6 pm: Took in the Larboard Studding sails

 8 pm: An increasing Breeze and dark cloudy Weather.

 9 pm: Took in the Studding sails the Assistant dropping astern. shewed false fires at Intervals which the Assistant answered.

12 mid: Ditto Weather

 1 am: At 1 set Studding sails the Assistant being pretty well in her Station.

 4 am: Cloudy Weather shortened sail.

 5 am: At Daybreak – Set Studding sails – saw some brown Sheerwaters and some Birds of the Gull Species.

 8 am: Fresh Breezes & Cloudy Weather Ships Company mustered in Divisions. while they were all upon Deck the Captain took the Opportunity of examining all the Seamens Chests, for some Articles which have been stolen and for all Logs or Journals of the Voyage which he secured for the Inspection of the Admiralty. the officers were requested to give in their[s] two Days hence, but the commissioned Gentlemen objected to it.

12 noon: At Noon Moderate Breezes & fine Weather
