Flinders's Providence Logbook Oct 13, 1792

Saturday October 13th 1792 H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Light Breezes and fair Weather Spoke the Assistant per Signal – Hoisted out the Whale boat and sent her on board her for Lieutenant Portlock – Fitted and set the Driver and Spritsail top

 5 pm: Lieutenant Portlock returned in the Whale boat – Hoisted her in

 8 pm: Light Airs and fair Weather carrying all Sail

 9 pm: A heavy dew falling

12 mid: Ditto Weather the Magellan Clouds[*] distinctly seen

 2 am: A bright Meteor fell in the SE

 4 am: Ditto Weather

 5 am: Saw a Tropic Bird

 6 am: Washed the Decks as usual

 8 am: Light Breezes and fine Weather

 9 am: Cleared between Decks and washed below fore and aft – destroyed many Cockroaches – Fires in the Cockpit stoves

11 am: Saw some Porpoises and passed great Quantities of Spawn – Served fresh Beef – Sailmakers employed upon the Main Deck Awning

12 noon: At Noon Light Breezes and fine Weather the Swell from the SW continues –
