Flinders's Providence Logbook Sep 20, 1792

Remarks Thursday September 20th H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and fair Weather with Haze. At 0:40 Made the Assistants Signal to steer West – Several large Boobies near the Ship

 3 pm: At 3:10 The Assistant made our Signals to come within Hail and for the Boats to return on board – Spoke her and hove to – Lieutenant Portlock came on board in the Whale boat

 5 pm: At 5 He returned on board. Hove too and hoisted in the Boats – At 6:40 Wore Ship

 8 pm: Wore Ship – Lightning to the Westward

12 mid: Ship wore every Hour per Signal

 4 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy Weather

 5 am: At 5:30 Hove to, lowered down the Boats and sent them to the Assistant, who soon after bore away the Boats leading and sounding – At 6:25 Bore up after the Assistant – Saw several Gulls – Set Studding sails – Passed thro extensive Patches of Scum which gave the Water the Appearance of being Shoal – Fine Weather – Washed below fore and aft

10 am: At 10:50 Saw a Shoal in the NW – Sailmakers and People employed upon occasional Duty

12 noon: At Noon Moderate Breezes and fair Weather rather hazey about the Horizon
