Bond's Providence Logbook Jun 27, 1793

Remarks &c Thursday 27th June 1793

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and fair weather – a strange sail in the NNE.

 3 pm: Aired the small sails. Sailmakers employed repairing the old Main Top Gallant sail.

 4 pm: At 4 light airs and showers of rain. Exercised great guns. Let water into the ship and pumped it out as usual.

 8 pm: Moderate breezes and cloudy weather

10 pm: Sounded every ¼ of an hour from 50 to 60 fathoms – At ½ past 10 made the Assistants signal to go ahead and sound &c. – no ground.

12 mid: At midmight clear weather – 7 sail in sight. Passed through strong ripplings

 5 am: Light breezes and cloudy weather At day light the Assistant, Antelope, Thomas, Clementson in company; the 2 brigs to leeward; and a strange sail a stern about 6 miles – Caught a shark. Served the usual breakfast. Exercised great Guns & small Arms – Got up all wet clothes to dry. Out 1st. reef.

10 am: At 10 squally with showers of rain

12 noon: At Noon light airs and variable weather The Assistant, Antelope, and 2 Guinea ships in company – The sail in the NW about 7 miles distant.
