1 pm: Fresh breezes and fine weather with haze.

 3 pm: At 3 made the Assistants signal to tack. At ½ past, a strange sail seen from the deck, bearing NbE – In 2nd. reef Main and Mizen and 3rd reef Fore Top sail. At 4.30 a heavy squall with sudden shift of wind, shortened sail as occasion required. Exercised great guns & small arms. At 5. out 2nd. reefs – The Camacaqua Hills from South to SbW½W, 10 or 12 leagues. – Pan of Matanzas appearing like a round island SWbS, 12 or 13 leagues.

12 mid: At 12 light airs inclinable to calm, Lightning all round the compass – Sounded every ¼ of an hour from 70 to 80 fathoms no ground.

 5 am: At day light saw 1 sail standing to the Northward and a brig standing to the Southward. set Top Gallant sails – At 6 saw a sail a head standing to the southward. Half past fired 4 guns at a Schooner, and made ye Assistants signal to Chace nmd shortened sail. Made the signal to call in all cruizers at 7 – Served the usual breakfast.

 8 am: At 8 squally, in Top Gallant Sails. At 9.30 spoke the Assistant and found the Chace to be an American laden with flour, bound to the Mississippi – Exercised great guns and small arms. Served Krout as usual.

12 noon: At Noon fresh breezes and fair weather with haze Ships in company as yesterday, with 2 brigs to the Northward.
