Remarks at Port Royal Jamaica

1793 February

Monday 11 Light Breezes, Calms and fair Weather. Received 110 pounds fresh Beef. Aired the Ships Company's Bedding and issued clean Hammocks. Sailmakers fitting new Awnings.

  Received an order from the Chairman of the Committee to land at Port Henderson 84 Breadfruit, 5 Rattahs, 6 Ayyah, 4 Mango, 1 Coffee and 10 Nanka, it was complied with. Total 110. The Ship crowded with Company every day.

Tuesday 12 Ditto Weather. Washed Ship fore and aft and Aired with fires. Received an order from the Chairman of the Committee to land at Greenwich 75 Breadfruit Plants, 9 Rattah, 18 Ayyah, 3 Avvee, 2 Cocoa Nutt, 4 Mango, 2 Coffee, 14 Nanka's, 7 Jamblang, 2 Pomegranates. Total 135. Received also an order to send to Savannah la Mar by the Assistant 83 Breadfruit Plants, 5 Rattah, 7 Ayyah, 4 Timor Mangos, 10 Nanka. Total 109. The whole I complied with and prepared to go to Port Morant with the remainder of the Plants for Bath and the parts there. Received fresh Beef 165 pounds.

Wednesday 13 Fair Weather with some Showers. Sent all the Curiosity Plants on shore to remain untill we Sail for England, and the Assistant received all her Plants for Savanna la Mar. Came on board a Pilot to take us to Port Morant. Weighed the Small Bower and hove short on the Stream. Received fresh Beef.

  I find that no Plants were as yet collected for His Majestys Garden at Kew.
