Providence Logbook Jul 28, 1792

Remarks Saturday 28th July 1792 [Towards] Savage Island

 1 pm: Fresh Gales and Cloudy Weather with a misty Horizon as bad as a Winters day in England.

 5 pm: That Lieut. Portlock might know my intention for the Night, made the Signal to Steer WbS

 7 pm: Signal to him to go a head as soon as it became dark and carry a light, which he answered. The course altered at 6 OClock. Up Fore Sail.

12 mid: Strong Gales & very Cloudy weather with much Sea & Ship rolling deep

 4 am: Fresh Gales & dark Cloudy Weather. Set the Fore Sail.

 6 am: More moderate but very dark weather. Out Reefs & made Sail occasionally.

 8 am: Ditto Weather with Rain. Opened a Cask of Otaheite Pork No. 18 Contents 130 Double Peices

10 am: Sailmakers employed repairing the Fore Top Sail Cooper making Tubs for some Plants the Pots being broke

11 am: Cleaned below.

12 noon: Very Cloudy dark weather but the Sun came out sufficient at noon to give us a good latitude.
 Under Single Reefs & Fore Top Mast Steering Sail.
