Providence Logbook Nov 18-29, 1791

Remarks. In Table Bay Cape of Good Hope

November 1791

Friday 18th Generally Strong Gales. Sailed a Dutch India Man for Batavia. Carpenters and Five Artificers from the Shore as before. Washed & Cleaned Ship in every part. Received Fresh Mutton Greens and Soft Bread as before. Men Employed in the Hold.—

Saturday 19th Strong Gales and fair Weather. Carpenters and Artificers from the Shore Employed Caulking and other duties. People Employed Washing and mending their Cloaths. Received Mutton &c as usual.—

Sunday 20 Strong Gales and Intervals of little Wind. Dismissed Artificers from the Shore, but our own Carpenters still Employed. Received on Board Water Fresh Mutton Greens and Bread as usual.—

Monday 21 Light Winds and Fair Weather. Carpenters Employed Caulking. Received Mutton &c as usual. Received Water. —

Tuesday 22 Moderate Breezes with some Squalls Began to Paint the Ship. Anchored an American Ship from the Isle de France homeward bound.—Received Fresh Mutton &c as usual. Carpenters Employed Painting & Caulking

Wednesday 23 Ditto Weather with some small Rain. Fixed the Observatory. Sent some Hands to assist in repairing the Assistants Sails. Received Fresh Mutton Greens &c Carpenters Employed Caulking and other duties.—

Thursday 24 Light Winds and Fair Weather with some Fog in the Morning. Employed Painting and other Duties. Received fresh Mutton &c as before. Carpenters employed Caulking. Received 868 lbs Rice and 708 lbs Sugar —

Friday 25 Ditto Weather. Received on Board the powder. Scrubbed Hammocks. Carpenters Employed painting and Caulking. Received Fresh Mutton &c as before. Received 8533 lbs Flour 60 Bushels Calavances and 8075 lbs of Bread.—

Saturday 26 Ditto Weather. Struck the Gunners Tent. Washed and Cleaned Ship, and Cloaths. Received Fresh Mutton, &c as usual. Carpenters and Sailmakers Employed on necessary duties.—

Sunday 27 Variable Weather. Arrived the Pit Transport Captain Manning for Port Jackson, last from Rio Janeiro 26 days. Anchored the duke of Clarence from St. Helena. Received Fresh Meat as before. Mustered and saw all the People Clean.—

Monday 28 Fair Weather & Moderate Breezes. Anchored a French Ship from Marseilles, and Sailed a French Ship a Brig with Staves for Martinique. Received Fresh Mutton & Greens &c for the people. Carpenters Employed painting and Caulking — Received 10 Barrels and 1 Hogshead Spirits —

Tuesday 29 Fair Weather with some Calms. Carpenters as before & Sailmakers about the Assistants Sails. Received on Board Water Fresh Mutton Greens & Bread as usual. Sailed a dutch India man for Batavia. Washed & Cleaned Ship
