not a man in the Boat, but Mr Cole the Boatswain and myself, except Captn Bligh, that could steer the Boat in all the bad weather we had — and when we came to Timor I ask Captn Bligh for a ruff coppy of the Log for my own satisfaction and he refused to let me have it — therefore in my own defence, I am obliged to write the best my memorey will allow me — I was inform of the conversation that past between Captn Bligh and Mr Cole — Captn Bligh had been told that it was thro' Mr Cole and others application to Christain that we got the Launch Instead of the small cutter with her Bottom almost out. Captn Bligh ask Mr Cole if there was any truth in it — Mr Cole said truth sir

you would never have got the Launch yourself Captn Bligh said dont you take any notice of that I will always be a friend to you — this I was told by Mr Cole — poor Mr Nelson who Mr Bligh always made his confident use to say to [me] Mr Fryer sir Captn — [?] have upset our Voyage — I use to say never mind Mr Nelson have a good heart we shall see old England and tell them of our grievances by & by — aye Mr Fryer Sir Jos Banks will ask me a Number [of] Question[s] — and be assured that I will speak the truth — if we live to see him —
