On the 3rd of this month the Achilles, Captain Lee, arrived in this port from the whaling ground, having on board three New Zealanders, whom Captain L. stated he had picked up in a whaling boat upon the ocean; they were wounded, and said that they had belonged to the Ploughboy, of Nantucket, U. S. whaler, but while in the boats, never having worked at an oar before, and a harpoon having been put into a whale they caught, what is technically called "a crab," which made so much noise in the water that the monster plunged into the vasty deep, causing the loss of their line and iron. Upon returning on board tho captain brought forth his fowling piece and fired, aud loaded and fired again, until each of them had received as much lead as he thought necessary; they were then put into a boat and turned adrift. This statement, of which we were sceptical upon the first hearing of it, has been satisfactorily negatived by the arrival of the Black Warrior, Captain Mugford, on Thursday last, who states that he fell in with the Ploughboy, which hailed him, stating that some New Zealanders they had had on board had murdered two hands, and then made their escape in one of the boats. These, unquestionably, are the men in question, who, no doubt after committing the murder, took to the boats and were fired at by the crew of the Ploughboy — hence their wounds. The New Zealanders are in the custody of the Police, having been given into custody by Captain Duke, agent for the Achilles.
