Sunday, Jun. 7, 1789

1:00 pm Fresh Gales and Squally with much sea. Ship a great deal of water and are constantly wet and Bailing. I see with much concern the surgeon Mr. Ledward, and Lawrence Lebogue an old Hardy Seaman giving way very fast.

6:00 pm Served 1/24 pound Bread, and water for Supper.

Monday, Jun. 8, 1789

6:00 am Very Wet and Cold Gave a little wine to the Surgeon & Lebogue.

8:00 am  Squally with showers. Served 1/24 pound Bread and a Jill of water as usual.

12:00 pm Moderate with showers and fair Intervals. Served 1/24 pound Bread and water for Dinner.

Journal

This day the sea run very high and we were very wet, suffering much cold in the night. I now remarked that the Surgeon Mr. Ledward and an old hardy Seaman Lawrence Lebogue giving way very fast. I could only assist them by a teaspoonfull or two of wine at day light. Amongst most of the others I observe more than a common inclination to Sleep a symptom of nature being almost reduced to its last effort.

Served 1/24 pound Bread and a Jill of water at Supper Breakfast and Dinner. Saw several Gannets and Signs of land which lies to the northward of us.
