Friday, Dec. 7, 1787

1:00 pm Fresh Gales and Squally Weather.

4:00 pmSqually and Rain. Portland NNE½E 7 leagues.

5:00 pm Portland NEBN several ships beating down Channel bore away but I determined to keep on for the Night at 6 Tacked.

8:00 pm Ditto Weather and sometimes little Wind.

11:00 pm Tacked. Portland Light NBE½E 3 leagues.

Saturday, Dec. 8, 1787

12:00 am Very Squally with Rain.

4:00 am Hard Squalls and thick Rainy Weather which determined me to bear away for St. Helens and wait a more favorable Wind.

6:00 am The Ship Wet below and most of my People with heavy Colds on them.

8:00 am Ditto Weather. Several Ships in Company, some going into the Needles.

9:00 am Peverel Point NBE 5 leagues.

10:00 am Moderate & Cloudy.

11:00 am Fresh Gales and very thick Weather.

12:00 pm Ditto Weather. Dunnose NE½E 3 or 4 leagues. Under Double Reef Topsails & Courses.
