Tobin's Providence Logbook Jun 30, 1793

H M Ship Providence from Jamaica [towards England – 1793]

Remarks Sunday June 30th

 1 pm: Moderate breeze and fine weather – The People employed washing and mending their cloaths Exercised small Arms

 4 pm: At 4 Ditto Weather – Part of the Effects of Mr. Hinde Midshipman deceased were sold at the Mast Saw a strange Sail to the Southward – at 7 In 1st Reefs & shortened Sail for the Assistant

 8 pm: at 8 Light breezes – At 10 saw a false fire from the Assistant, answered it with a Light & made more sail

12 mid: At Midnight moderate breeze and fine weather

 1 am: Three sail in sight

 4 am: Ditto Weather

 5 am: At day light the Assistant, Antelope, & Cleminson in company – The Thomas 5 or 6 Miles a head – Out 1dst Reefs & set the Royals

 9 am: Served thick gruel for breakfast – two Dolphins were caught – Saw Gulph weed

10 am: Unbent the old Fore Top Gallant Sail & Jib & bent the new ones

11 am: Exercised great Guns – Mustered the Ships Company in Divisions, after which Captain Bligh read prayers to the people – Served sour Krout

12 noon: Moderate breeze & fine weather Assistant, & Cleminson in Company – Antelope & Thomas in sight
