Tobin's Providence Logbook Jan 18, 1793

[H M Ship Providence from St Helena] towards St. Vincents – 1793

Friday January 18th

 1 pm: Moderate breeze and fine weather

 2 pm: Squally – Split the Fore Top Sail, unbent old bent the second best – set steering Sails – Worked the pumps as usual – In steering Sail

 5 pm: Sailmaker repairing the old Fore Top Sail

 8 pm: Fine weather

12 mid: Squally – In steering and Top Gallant Sails

 3 am: Set Top Gallant Sails

 4 am: Squally – Top Gallant Sails

 6 am: Frequent squalls, with some Rain – made & shortened Sail as necessary

 8 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for Breakfast – at 8 moderate breeze and cloudy – cleaned below and aired with fires – People washing and mending their cloaths – Spoke Assistant – Served Portable Soup in the Pease for dinner – Sailmaker repairing the old Fore Top Sail

12 noon: Fresh Gale and frequent Squalls
