Tobin's Providence Logbook Dec 14, 1792

H M Ship Providence from Timor towards [St. Helena – 1792]

Friday December 14th

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fine clear weather

 3 pm: Sailmakers on old Sails – Gunners painting gun carriages – Tarred the whale boat

 6 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual

 8 pm: Cloudy weather

 4 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast – Cleaned below and aired with fires – Sailmakers Gunners and carpenters as before – Seamen scraping the Masts bowsprit &c – and painting the lower Masts – greased the Top, & Top gallant Masts, topsail sheets &c

12 noon: At Noon moderate breezes and cloudy, broached a Puncheon of Spruce beer
   Latitude Observed 17°..39′ South
