Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 28, 1792

H M S Providence [1792]

Friday September 28th

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and fair weather

 2 pm: Cooper employed repairing casks

 4 pm: Saw Boobies and flying fish

 7 pm: Shortened Sail – Spoke the Assistant & in 1st Reefs – Sounded 40 fathoms fine sand – altered our course

10 pm: Shortened Sail to sound

11 pm: Kept the lead going all night

 2 am: Exceeding fine weather & moon light

 5 am: Fresh breezes and cloudy at 5..45 bore away and made all Sail The Assistant leading

 7 am: Saw a flock of the Gull kind – great numbers of flying fish

 8 am: Moderate breezes and fine weather – Hazy horizon – Saw Tropic Birds – served the usual breakfast of Portable Soup gruel – Cooper repairing Casks

10 am: Up all Chests and bags and washed below – sluiced the Beams &c with water which destroyed many cockroaches – Carpenters employed chinsing the Cutter &c – Served Krout & Portable Soup in the Pease for dinner

12 noon: At Noon moderate & fair weather with hazy horizon
