1 pm: Moderate breezes and fair weather – The Assistant and Boats leading and showing soundings – at 1 rocks bearing SWbS – at ¾ past 3 brought up with the small Bower in 21 fathoms sandy bottom and veered to ½ a Cable – Island A from N52°W to N64°W about 3 Leagues distant B S35°E to S40°E 5 Leagues – C S31°E & D S33E nearly the same distance as B – A Sandy Key (called Canoe Key) S56°W – Sent the Master and 3d Lieutenant in the whale boat and cutter to examine the passage to Leeward – Boats returned without having effected much [?] – prepared them for the morning

11 pm: Sailing Canoes were this morning seen about the Reefs

12 mid: Fresh breezes and clear weather with smooth water anchorage

 2 am: Squally

 4 am: Strong breezes and cloudy – at 4 I left the Ship in the whale boat with The Master in the cutter to examine a passage that appeared from the Mast Head in the SW between the Shoals

 7 am: Served the usual breakfast

 8 am: Fresh breezes and fair weather – several large sailing Canoes were seen and one near the Cutter

11 am: At ½ past 11 the whale boat returned with the Master but the Cutter in which was the 3d Lieutenant made the Signal for assistance – Sent the Pinnace with the 2d Lieutenant and a gang of hands, armed, to assist her – Ditto Weather Pease Portable Soup and Krout for dinner – The Boats at Noon [?] up to the Ship against a tide of [blank] Knots setting to the Westward
