Tobin's Providence Logbook Aug 17, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Matavai Bay Otaheite] towards Timor in the East Indies – 1792

Friday August 17th 1792

 1 pm: Moderate breeze and very fine weather

 2 pm: Sailmaker repairing the old Mizen Topsail

 4 pm: worked the Pumps

 6 pm: In steering Sails and 1st Reef Topsails

 8 pm: Ditto Weather – heard a whale blowing

12 mid: Light breeze and cloudy – under an easy sail, the Assistant leading ahead with a light

 6 am: Out Reefs and made all Sail – Saw two Tropic birds – Served thick portable Soup Gruel for breakfast

 8 am: Fresh breezes and cloudy with flying Squalls In Royals – Washed all the Decks & aired with the Brodies Stoves – at 10 in 1st Reefs – Exercised the boats crews at small Arms – at Noon fresh breeze and dark cloudy weather – Served portable Soup and sour Krout in the Pease for Dinner
  An Indifferent Observation Latitude 13°..41′ South
Saw a few brown birds of the petterel kind
