1 pm: Fresh gale and cloudy weather

 4 pm: At ½ past 4 made the Island of Whytootackay bearing SWBW½W 6 or 7 Leagues – In steering and Top Gallant Sails – worked the pumps as usual – at ½ past 5 handed the Main Sail In 2d and 3d Reefs Topsail – hauled to the wind – at 6 the Round Hill of Whytootackay bore SWBW distant 5 or 6 Leagues

10 pm: A Light shower of Rain

11 pm: Island Whytootackay

SW½W 4 or 5 Leagues

12 mid: Wore Ship

 1 am: Hauled the foresail up

 4 am: At 4 AM Squally with light showers of rain, wore Ship, at 5 fresh gales and cloudy weather – at ¾ past 6 wore ship the round Hill bearing S45°W 3 or 4 Leagues set the foresail and out 3d Reefs

 8 am: at 8 the round hill S59°W 6 or 7 Miles

 9 am: at ½ past 9 hove too, tried for soundings with 140 fathoms no ground – Extremes of the Island from South to N85°E round hill S51° East distant off shore about 2 Miles Saw ye natives on the beach and a number of canoes within the reef – 3 Canoes came along side – at ½ past 10 filled, at 11 Tacked Ship – at ½ past 11 Tacked again

12 noon: At Noon Tacked Ship, The extremes of the Island from S12°E to N88°E Round Hill S59°E distant off shore about 2 Miles – Served fresh pork & plantains as usual Assistant in Company
