Tobin's Providence Logbook Feb 29, 1792

H M Ship Providence from Adventure Bay Van Diemens [Land towards Otaheite in 1792]

Wednesday February 29th

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and cloudy weather – a swell from the Westward

 7 pm: Hauled in all but the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

10 pm: Kept a fire in the Galley to air Ship

11 pm: Fresh Breezes, hauled down the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail and took in 1st Reef Fore and Mizen and 2d Main Top Sail

 1 am: A Luminous appearance on the water

 5 am: Out all Reefs & set Steering Sails – Saw the same kind of Birds as yesterday besides Rock Weed – Served Portable Soup and thick Gruel for Breakfast, Cleaned below and aired with fires – Unbent the old Fore Top Sail to repair, bent the new one and set it – People refitting the Fore Top Sail Carpenters making chocks for, and repairing the Large Cutter

11 am: Served Krout and wort as usual – at 11 shortened Sail for the Tender

12 noon: At Noon fresh Breezes and hazy
   Latitude Observed 47°..47′ South
