[Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island] of S. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791

Sunday October 2d 1791

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and fine weather

 2 pm: A Great number of fish about the Ship – A swell from the Southward

 5 pm: Measured the Log Line and found it right at 48 fathoms 8 Inches to a Knot

 8 pm: Light Breezes and fine weather

11 pm: Kept a fire in the Galley during the night

 2 am: Cloudy

 5 am: A Number of fish about

 7 am: Fine weather with a slight haze Got the Chests and Bags up – washed the Gun deck and cleaned the orlop &c – Kept fires in the Cockpits

12 noon: Performed Divine Service –
 Moderate Breezes and fine weather with haze – The Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 00°..55′North
