Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island of [St Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope]

Thursday September 29th 1791

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy – Made the Assistants signal to make more sail

 2 pm: Saw a large flock of Sea Birds of the Gull species

 5 pm: A number of porpoises about the Ship – at 6 shortened sail for ye Assistant to set up her Rigging

10 pm: Squally in Top Gallant Sails

 5 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy weather – the air cool & pleasant

 9 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy weather – got up the Chests and Bags, washed the Gun Deck and cleaned the orlops – Kept the Brodie Stoves lighted in the Cockpits

11 am: Saw two large Sharks and a Turtle – The People employed working up Junk

12 noon: At Noon the Assistant in Company
