Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 21, 1791

Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island [of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope 1791]

Wednesday September 21 1791

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and cloudy weather

 3 pm: A Squall attended with rain

 5 pm: Served Borecole to the Ships Company

 8 pm: Squally with Rain took in the Top Gallant Sails and 1st Reefs of the Topsails

11 pm: Set Top Gallant Sails

12 mid: Dark Cloudy unsettled weather all round

 1 am: A Shower of Rain

 2 am: made & shortened sail as necessary

 3 am: A Fire kept in the Galley throughout the Night

 5 am: Light rain

 6 am: The Ship and Brig still in sight

 7 am: Employed cleaning and drying below, working up Junk &c – Lighted the Brodie Stoves in the Cockpitsd

 9 am: Out Reefs and set the Royals

10 am: Air more wet than of late.

11 am: Breeze increasing and the weather more settled

12 noon: At Noon cloudy hauled down the Royals – The Assistant in Company
   No Observation
