Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 19, 1791

Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the [Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope 1791]

Monday September 19th 1791

 1 pm: The Weather more settled and the rain decreasing – saved 3 Puncheons of Water from the Awnings

 4 pm: Got the Wet cloaths up to dry

 5 pm: Inclining to fair weather – Moderate Breezes

 6 pm: Kept the stoves with a fire in them below – and a few in the Galley all night to dry cloaths and air the Ship

12 mid: Cloudy weather the Air cool

 5 am: Made sail set the Studding sails & Royals

 6 am: Saw a Sail in the WNW

 8 am: Got the Chests up and washed the Gun deck. Kept the Brodie stoves with fire in them in the Fore and after Cockpit, cleaned the Gun Room and stowed it a fresh [?] [?] [?] in an Iron Pot for some [?]

11 am: Light Airs and a dark cloudy Sky to the SE. – shortened Sail

12 noon: At Noon the Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 7°..26′ North
