Tobin's Providence Logbook Aug 29-Sep 1, 1791

Monday August 29th. 1791 – Moored in Santa Cruz Road Teneriffe

Mostly calm and Hazy with showers at times – Two Spanish Boats came from the shore and carried the empty casks to be filled – The people employed clearing away the Fore and after Holds – The Number of Casks sent on shore 43 Puncheons, 25 Hogshead and 2 half Hogsheads – Confined Daniel Hogg Seaman in Irons for drunkenness and insolence – At 9 AM loosed sails to dry – Calm and fair weather The Thermometer in the Shade 87° [?]

Tuesday 30th In the early part Wind South – [?] Variable and calms. Employed at work in the Holds – received on board 16 Puncheons and 10 Hogsheads of water – AM Employed stowing the Fore and after Hold – received fresh Beef 130 pounds – Thermometer in the Shade 89½°

Wednesday 31st. Light Airs variable People employed in the Hold stowing away the water – AM Calms and fair weather Received on board fresh Beef. Wind SW light Airs, employed preparing for Sea – The Ships Draught of Water 15 Feet foreward – Abaft 16 Feet..3 Inches

Thursday September 1st 1791 Wind Variable in the beginning – Middle part SW rather calm and variable – at 4 PM veered away and hove up the Small Bower to the whole Cable Service at 8 PM Light Airs carried out the Kedge – at 10 weighed the Kedge and hove into the ½ Cable Service – at 5 AM Calm and Hazy Weather weighed anchor and sent the boats ahead to Tow. received 17 Puncheons and 7 Hogsheads of water. people employed stowing it away – Light Airs & Calms at 10 AM Employed stowing the Anchors &c At Noon Light Airs and calms – Ships Draught of Water 15°..3′ [sic] Foreward – Abaft 16 Feet..3 Inches
