Log &c. of H M S Providence from Spithead towards [the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Remarks &c Friday 5th August

 1 pm: Light Breezes and fair weather

 3 pm: People employed working Junk up, into Mats &c

 8 pm: Saw the Start bearing NW¼W distant 8 Leagues

 1 am: AM

 6 am: Light Breezes and foggy

 7 am: Throughout this Day the Assistant found much Difficulty in keeping way with us, and we were frequently obliged to shorten sail for her

12 noon: At Noon H M S Winchelsea Spoke us – Sent the Jolly boat on board her with Letters
   Latitude Observed 49°..49′ North
