Flinders's Providence Logbook Dec 2, 1792

Remarks ☉ [Sunday] December 2nd 1792 H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes & fine Weather At 1 Shortened Sail, hoisted out the Whale boat and sent her to the Assistant for Lieutenant Portlock when she returned made all Sail. Saw Albatrosses, & Sheerwaters.

 4 pm: Ditto Weather Passed a Portuguese man of war and a Shoal of Fish. People washing and mending their Cloaths. At 7 Mr Portlock returned and the Whale boat hoisted in – Tobacco served in afternoon – Took in the Fore royal the Main Top Top Gallant studding sails – At 8 Fresh Breezes.

10 pm: reefed the Main topsail, and took in the Lower and Fore topmast studding sails.

12 mid: Moderate Breezes & Cloudy Weather some Dew falling.

 2 am: Passed thro' a strong ripling probably affected by a partial eddy Current.

 4 am: Fine Weather Got the Foresail topsail yard across.

 5 am: Some Sheerwaters, Albatrosses and Whales seen.

 8 am: An increasing Breeze. reefed the Fore and Mizen topsails – Ships Company mustered in Divisions seen clean & Divine Service performed to them by the Captain. – At 2 Second reefed the Fore topsail – Pintado's, Sheerwaters and Carey Chickens about
A Puncheon of Spruce broached for the People

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Gale & Cloudy Weather
Assistant in Company.
