Flinders's Providence Logbook Nov 15, 1792

Remarks Thursday November 15th H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Calm and fine Weather A long swell from the Westward

 2 pm: At 2 light Breeze

 3 pm: Saw some Albacores & Sheerwaters

 4 pm: Ditto Weather

 5 pm: Water let into the Ship and pumped out again to ventilate the Holds

 6 pm: Before Dark – In first reefs

 8 pm: Moderate Breeze and cloudy – Set the Lower & Fore topmast Studding sail – The Assistant a considerable Distance ahead so that we could scarcely distinguish her Light. Hauled up half a Point for her and shewed a False Fire which she presently answered

12 mid: Fine open cloudy Weather Took in the Lower Studding sail

 4 am: Moderate Breezes and fine Weather Out reefs et Lower & Top Gallant Studding sails – Saw Albacores, Sheerwaters & Albacores

 6 am: Swell considerably abated

 8 am: Fine pleasant Weather Washed in the after Cockpit with hot Water to destroy Cockroaches – Marines exercised at Small Arms – Carpenters caulking the Upper Deck and People picking Oakum. Clued up the Fore Topsail to repair and At Noon set it again. A Cask of Spruce Beer broached Light Breezes & fine Weather Assistant in Company
