Flinders's Providence Logbook Sep 25, 1792

Remarks Tuesday September 25th 1792 H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and fair Weather People employed about the Cables, making Spun yarn &c

 2 pm: Saw flying Fish Gannet Boobies & Tropic Birds Passed some Patches of Scum

 4 pm: Fresh and Cloudy Weather

 5 pm: Before Dark In Studding sails Top Gallant sails and 2nd reefs – Spoke the Assistant she informed us that what we had taken for a Shoal this Morning was no other than a large Field of Scum She had sounded upon the North Part of it and had 44 Fathoms it retained the Appearance of a Shoal till within ½ Cables Length of it when they perceived the white Scum upon the Water

10 pm: A brown Gannet Booby caught

12 mid: Moderate Breezes and fair Weather

 4 am: Fine clear Morning
At Daybreak Out reefs and made all Sail

 6 am: The Upper Deck washed as usual

 8 am: Hazey Weather
People employed rounding the Cables where they were rubbed

10 am: Saw flying Fish and struck a large Porpoise but the rope breaking he made his Escape with the Harpoon in him

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Breezes and Hazey Weather
