Flinders's Providence Logbook Aug 5, 1792

Remarks Sunday 5th In the great South Sea

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes & fair Weather a small Swell from the Southward

 2 pm: People washing & mending their Clothes

 4 pm: Fine clear Weather

 5 pm: Spoke the Assistant – All well on board

 6 pm: Before Dark – In Steering sails and 1st Reefs

 8 pm: Moderate Breezes and fine pleasant Weather

 9 pm: Saw some Porpoises

11 pm: Gunners in the Magazine

12 mid: Fine Moon light Night

 2 am: The Assistant ahead carrying a Light as usual

 4 am: Fresh Breeze and clear Weather

 5 am: At Daybreak – Out 1st Reefs & set Studding sails – People scrubbing their Bags

 8 am: Fine Breeze & pleasant Weather

 9 am: Ships Company mustered in Divisions seen clean and Divine Service performed by the Captain

11 am: At 11 Saw a small round Island from the Mast head bearing SWbW 11 Leagues the Assistants Signal made

12 noon: At Noon Ditto Weather the Island bearing S48°W 9 Leagues from the Deck – two other seen from the Forward masthead bearing WbyS 7 Leagues and WSW 7 or 8 Leagues – A Cask of Spruce Beer broached as before – A large Bird of the Petterel Species seen
