Bond's Providence Logbook Jan 1, 1793

Remarks &c Tuesday 1st January 1793

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and fine weather

 2 pm: Sailmakers repairing the old foresail

 3 pm: Saw a tropic bird

 4 pm: Ditto Weather unbent the 2nd. best, and bent the old foresail.

 7 pm: Worked the pumps as usual and spoke the Assistant – found all well.

 8 pm: Ditto Weather

12 mid: Fine weather and moon light.

 1 am: Saw a bird.

 4 am: Ditto Weather

 5 am: Saw the Island of Ascension bearing SWbS

 6 am: At 6 extremes of the island from S9°W to S25°W. centre mountain S16W. off shore about 4 leagues.

 7 am: Served the usual breakfast. Saw Gannet Boobies – At 8 extremes of Ascension from S3°W to S8°E distant 5 or 6 leagues. Tropic & Man of war birds and carey chicken seen. Washed the gun, orlop & cockpit decks, and aired the ship with fires – Sailmakers about the Fore Top Mast staysail. Broached a cask of Spruce beer.
