 5 pm: Weighed under close reefed Top Sails and Top Gallant Masts [?] – The Assistant and Boats leading. Tacked Ship – strong squalls and rain. At 5.20 brought up with the Best Bower in 6½ fathoms sandy bottom. The Twins bore then from S61E to S69E about 7 miles, or 4 or 5 nearer than last The Cap S60E – veered to ½ a Cable – In Boats.

 8 pm: At 8 strong Gales and squally, veered to a whole Cable – Sounded 5 fathoms of the Best Bower and struck Lower Yards.

12 mid: Ditto Weather

 4 am: Hove in to ½ Cable Service on the weather Tide

 5 am: Out whale boat and sent her for Lieutenant Porlock

 7 am: Served the usual Breakfast

 8 am: Veered to a whole Cable – Cleaned below – People employed rounding and worming the Cables and refitting the Ground Tackling

11 am: Served Portable Soup and Krout in the Pease for Dinner

12 noon: Fresh gales and thick hazy weather
