Providence Logbook Jul 4, 1793

Remarks Thursday 4th July 1793 Towards England

 1 pm: Fine Weather. Saw a Brig in the SW Steering to the NNW.

 2 pm: Saw Flying Fish

 3 pm: Saw a Schooner in the East standing to the Southward

 4 pm: Exercised Great Guns and Small Arms at quarters and fired.

 5 pm: Saw a Schooner in the ENE. Made the Assistant Signal to Chase Spoke her. She came from Baltimore loaded with Flour & Soap bound to Santa Cruz. Said the Ambuscade 32 Gun French Frigate was at New York. Had heard of no Ships of War off the Coast, he left, but two Privateers one English and one French off Bermudas.

11 pm: Trifling Squalls of Rain

 4 am: Fine Weather. Royals and all Sails set.

 7 am: Hot Breakfast as usual. Dolphins, Flying Fish & Gulph Weed seen every day.

 9 am: Cleaned below. Exercised Great Guns. Exercised Small Arms & fired. Sailmakers repairing Sails & Carpenters about the Boats

12 noon: Fine Weather. Assistant, Packed & two Guineamen in Company. Gulph Weed seen every day, and all day many pieces seen.
