P. 98 - 12 Jun 1789 Remarks

At Day Light I fetched within with low land which formed the SEt. part of the Isld. - It was woody near the shore & other parts bear [bare]. An opening like a Harbour appeared bearg West abt. 5 Miles to the NW of which appeared a cul -tivated Country & from the arrangement of the Trees on one part it looked like a Gentlemans Seat. A great sea sat on the shore &er were only 5 Miles from it I therefore hauled out on a Wind to clear the SEt. pt. 2 leags. – I would have put into this apparent Port but I feared it might be difficult for me to get out again. Interiors parts Mountainous & Woody Appeared the mouth of a River at the point of low land. — 10h. Mountains pleasantly [diversified?] by cleared Spots wch. we take to be cultivated– See no Houses or Smokes. The [?] we now see are high, but the shore has been low we have passed hitherto. Plenty of wood. I intended to have gone on the East Side but I could not get round & I expect the goverr. resides on the NW part. — Many Cultivated Places & Beautiful Sit tutions. – Coast Mountains are sloping to the Sea - Much wind Saw some Houses. – No shelter for Boats. — Sea [?] SE[s?]
