At day dawn Sailed – Found my watch stoped. I must now guess at the hour of the day w^ch. must be imperfect as to time of events. – Passed the north^st. Land seen from Lagoon Isl^d WNW & NW about 3 or 4 leagues off. — All y^e- Main continues of a moderate height & full of Sand Hills. — The alteration of the Sea induces me to think we have passed several openings to the Sea through the Reefs— My Lat^d. Cape York (if it is the Cape) is 11°:18 S. It is a sandy Cape spotted with what grows on it—A long sandy Isl^d. just above water lies to the north^d. & eastward of it & bore West of us at Noon — on the Main a few leag^s. to the north^d. are two remarkable Hills which we called the Paps. Com^g from y^e- South^d. C. York may be first known by a flat Hill at the back of it w^ch. resembles a pudding Pan turned upside down. – The northermost land insight terminated in a low point & a Key bore NEbE ab^t. 3 or 4 leg^s. – The Isl^d. NE 2 Miles is a pretty Spot full of Trees & lies easterly of the low point 4 or 5 leagues. —
