At night we had a small [?-?] [mast?] - each — Mr Hayward and [?] came [? ?] Boat — at daylight a party went out in [? ?] He could get — about 11 oclock an old Chief came off alongside the Boat Captn Bligh call to me to let him see the Boat — this [?] as Captn Bligh call him in his narritive — I did not ask his name this man was very inquisitive, we had a chest in the Boat which he much want'd to look into — but I told him — in the Otaheite Language that the contents was firearms that by opening the chest, making signs they would kill us — there was a saw in the Boat which he was very

desirous of having as he could not get it he sent away rather displeas'd — a wrong scheme to [?] such a man as that to come near the Boat — soon after this man landed they began to haul on the Rope — to haul the Boat onshore — but they found that they was observ'd they let go the Rope and walk away — [then?] they [?] us several times A cocoa nut and bread fruit was served to each man — Mr Tinkler was constantly empd bringing things to the Boat his being a youngster the [?] did not take much Notice of him, only frequently play ing tricks as he past — and he the same with them
