  • Kraft: “Dr. Kraft, our surgeon” in John Garth's Diary (4th: Dec. 3). Kraft's first name given as “Rollan” in April & May, 1935 issues of Real Detective Magazine—a more-reliable source has not yet been found to verify this. Fraser lists an “R. W. Craft” as ship's doctor.
  • Marsh: “Hermann Marsh, violinist” in Sam T. Clover's A Pioneer Heritage (1st). Also mentioned in Banning's General Report (2nd).
  • Macleish, A. C. (and wife Frances): Listed as ship's doctor in Clover's A Pioneer Heritage. See Palmer's Third Galapagos Trip for more details (in footnote).
  • Meredith, De Witt: Not mentioned in any account, but he appears in group photo (above) in El Telégrafo (Guayaquil), February 18, 1938 (7th).
  • Merrick, Hugh: Identified in Hancock Expedition photo, Jan. 24 (7th).
  • Morgan Sisters: Clover mentions that in Panama, another ship “ … brought two passengers for the Velero in Mrs. Philip Morgan and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Don Morgan.” Presumably they accompanied the ship on its return to the United States (1st). Philip Morgan and another man are identified as “two trusty lieutenants in the big organization which handles Captain Hancock's many interests,” but there is no evidence that Mr. Morgan ever participated in a Velero III voyage. John Garth's Diary mentions Helen & Eleanor; Dec. 6 & 16, respectively (4th).
  • Palmer: His statement that the third Velero III voyage was his own third time with Hancock would suggest that the 1927 Oaxaca voyage was his first voyage. See Palmer's Third Galapagos Trip for more details.

  • Swett: John Garth's Diary (1st: Jan. 3, 2nd: Jan. 26, 3rd: Jan. 12, 4th: Dec. 8); unidentified 1938 newspaper clipping “ … has accompanied Capt. Hancock on all of his previous scientific cruises.” (5th, 6th, 7th). His participation in subsequent voyages is assumed but unverified pending further research.

  • Young, Paul: Not mentioned in any account, but a report in the San Diego Evening Tribune, March 12, 1938, lists a “Paul Young of New York, formerly of Glendale.”
