PLAYA OCHOA San Cristóbal Island

Ochoa Beach is located north of San Cristobal Island, approximately 30 minutes by boat from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. The visiting area is restricted to the beach; it has an area of 160 meters. 

In the area there is a considerable colony of Galapagos Sea Lions (Zalophus wollebaeki). One of the outstanding floras in this site is Piscidia or matazarno (Piscidia carthagenensis), this species is highly valued for its toughness and long life. Ghosts and hermit crabs are common species in this site visit. 

Near the beach is a temporal pool, which is constantly visited by migrating birds and shorebirds. It is one of the sites where you can see the mockingbird endemic to San Cristobal (Nesomimus melanosis). 

Playa Ochoa is a site that is used by cruise ships beginning or ending their trips in San Cristóbal Island. 

Special Indications

  • Take respective precautions with the sea lions present on the beach.

  • It is an ideal place to practice scuba diving.
